What to Pack For Your Summer Vacation To Jackson Hole

Nothing beats summertime in the Tetons, but sometimes you can experience all four seasons in a day! Though Jackson Hole’s climate can be unpredictable, the right gear will keep you warm and safe during your adventures here. With that in mind, we've created a summer packing list that will keep you prepared and well equipped for anything that is thrown your way during your stay.

Layers: A typical summer day in Jackson can get as high as 85 degrees during the day but swing down to 45 degrees at night. No matter where you go, be sure to bring a jacket with you. You’ll thank us later.

Wind and Rain Jacket: If you plan on hiking in the Tetons, the weather can be pretty unpredictable. You will start out a hike in the blazing sun then out of nowhere the wind will pick up and rain will drop out of the sky, it usually only lasts for a few minutes, so don’t worry… Just be sure you are not summiting during a lightning storm.

Waterproof Pants/Shorts: These are great for days on the river whether you are fishing, picnicking or floating down the Snake River. Which brings us to our next clothing item.

Footwear: You will want to pack a great pair of comfortable hiking shoes as well as a pair of waterproof shoes for rafting and swimming in one of our many beautiful lakes.

Socks: A good pair of performance socks are important for long days hiking and can also prevent horrible blisters. We recommend Smartwool or Darn Tough.

Hat & Sunglasses: The sun can be intense in Jackson so protect yourself from the elements.

Nighttime Tip: Do you plan on hitting the town while you are here? Jackson Hole is a very laid-back place. Jeans and a flannel can be worn to the fanciest restaurant in town. If you do plan on dressing up, we recommend women wear heels with a thicker heel because our downtown sidewalks are wooden boardwalks. That being said, Jackson is the perfect place to wear your favorite Western gear such as a cowboy hat, cowboy boots or bolo tie. If you didn't bring any with you, there are many amazing shops right around the square.

Small Backpack: Great for bringing all your necessities along with you for your adventures.

Water Bottle: Many people get altitude sickness when arriving to Jackson Hole so it is important to stay hydrated the whole time you are here, especially when hiking.

Insect Repellent: Even though we are at a high altitude, we still get bugs.

Camera: You will certainly not want to miss out on any of the surreal photo opportunities.

First Aid Kit: Hopefully you will not have to use this, but better to be on the safe side.

If you are flying, do not buy bear spray in advance! They are not allowed on planes and can be purchased upon arrival in Jackson.
